When the fetus develops outside the womb
Commonly called pregnancy out of place, the ectopic pregnancy is one in which the fetus develops outside the uterus, and can be located in the fallopian tube, in the cervical canal or in the pelvic or abdominal cavity.
Normally, the fertilization of the egg occurs in the fallopian tube and the resulting egg is transported to the uterus.
It is at this location that the deployment occurs. Any change in this natural path may lead to implantation to occur elsewhere, highlighting his own horn. A tubal obstruction due to pelvic infections earlier, surgery or tubal motility changes are the main causes of ectopic pregnancy.
Clinically, the ectopic pregnancy may be asymptomatic or manifested by small vaginal blood loss and abdominal pain in women with menstrual delay. As in ectopic pregnancy conception if product deploys in a place which is not prepared for a pregnancy, february 1 situations can occur:
-The pregnancy progresses, and the lining of the uterus sheds, causing losses (blood) vaginal hemáticas.
-The pregnancy progresses and there is a risk of vourself and bleeding, with greater morbidity and maternal mortality.
The diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy is increasingly ultrasound, even before the development of symptoms. Characteristically, a woman with a positive pregnancy test, the ultrasound reveals an empty uterus and allows the identification of pregnancy in abnormal location. There is rarely need to resort to other imaging tests.
With regard to treatment, we may consider three different approaches:
-Expectant Attitude, which consists of a clinical and laboratory monitoring
-Medical treatment using methotrexate intramuscular
-Surgical removal of the fetus or the tube affected if there are tubárias extensive injuries.
The decision as to the treatment to adopt is made by considering case-by-case basis.
This rigorous assessment, is made according to clinical criteria, echographic and analytical.
Are considered high-risk factors history of surgery or tubal pathology, previous ectopic pregnancy, exposure in utero to DES (drug diethylstilbestrol (des)) and IUD (intrauterine device).
Women who resorted to infertility treatments, I had genital infections and have or have had multiple sexual partners are at moderate risk. The low-risk factors are abdominal or pelvic surgery, smoking, the shower and the first vaginal intercourse before the age of 18 years with maternity jackets.
How to prevent
It is very difficult to prevent. On the one hand, although identified the major risk factors, most Ectopic pregnancies occur in women with no known risk factors.
On the other, there are risk factors that are not preventable. Nevertheless, we can consider as risk-reducing measures in the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases responsible for pelvic inflammatory disease, smoking and crowding out the correct use of the contracetivos methods.
