The Risks of X-Ray and CT in Pregnancy

A study by Brown University reveals that in the last ten years diagnostic tests emitting radiation have doubled that is subjected to pregnant women.

It should be remembered that ultrasounds do not produce any damage in the baby or the mother, the risk is in radiation emitting medical diagnosis through x-ray methods X and computed tomography (CT), a test that emits radiation than x-rays twice.

Radiographs and TACs, Although they release a low radiation, can reach damage the development of the fetus, especially in the first weeks of pregnancy. The problem is that often ignores the woman that she is pregnant and is just between the 2 week 15 of pregnancy when babies are more sensitive to radiation.

The American Society of Radiology alerted about the abuse of radiological tests that is subjected to pregnant women.

They reflected on the findings of the study revealed that they increased by 121% in the last ten years, above all the TAC.

Although the tests are carried out in areas of the body away from the uterus, radiation can also affect the fetus.

The consequences can be severe. Growth retardation, malformations, neurological damage, and cancer are some of the disorders that can cause high radiation exposure.

The specialists recommended to absolutely avoid such tests during pregnancy, only justified in extreme cases in which the mother suffers some serious disorder.

So, if you work in an area of medicine where you are subjected to this kind of radiation, you should take necessary preventive measures before the minimum possibility of pregnancy.
